Located at the northern end of Lake George, Cook Mountain Preserve is one of the 11 preserves owned by the Conservancy. The preserve was originally established in 1990, when the Delano family donated 176 acres. It was expanded another 18 acres by a donation from the Boyles five years later.

Hikers are being asked to avoid hiking on trails above 2,500 feet until high elevation trails have dried and hardened. Snow and ice are currently melting on high elevation trails and steep trails with thin soils are dangerous for hiking and susceptible to erosion, and sensitive alpine vegetation is easily damaged.
The Garden parking lot at the Garden Trailhead will be closed to public motor vehicles and pedestrians starting Monday and will remain closed until bridge construction is complete, according to the town of Keene.

Along with parking restrictions, which the state began enforcing last year in the Chapel Pond area, DEC wants to rate hikes for their degree of difficulty and get this information into the hotels so tourists will be less likely to attempt climbs that are beyond their capabilities.
