First of all, I want to point out that a few of the photos in this gallery were actually taken in 2019. Those are images taken for the January 2020 issue, such as the photos of Dan Spada ice skating and the ones with the home healthcare theme.
I wanted to include these images because they were important parts of the January 2020 issue and shouldn’t be left out. They also demonstrate the depth of our coverage. We focus on recreation and environmental issues, but we also tell the stories of the people of the Adirondack Park and the struggles and challenges they face. That’s why the poignant images of Thomas Wells of Willsboro, a man who is dependent on home heath care, are so important.
But as you scroll through these photos, you will notice plenty of images from recreation and the backcountry. There are images of sunrises on Poke-O-Moonshine and Whiteface Mountains, the pandemic scene on top of Mount Marcy, and images of wild fish on the Boquet River.
All of these elements make the Adirondack Park the great and complex place it is to live and visit. I hope you take the chance to view these photos and reflect on what a different year it was in 2020, but also come to realize how important places like the park are for healing and escaping everyday life during a time of crisis.

this could really use an “advance” button and having the progress indicator in the frame with the pictures would make it a whole lot easier to watch. As-is, it is just too hard to review.
