In May, multimedia reporter Mike Lynch joined former Explorer editor Phil Brown for a trip on the Sable Highlands Easement for a biking and hiking trip. The excursion started at the Fishhole Pond parking area, near Loon Lake. From there, they biked north on the D&H Road for about 2 miles, then turned left onto an old logging road and biked that a few miles to its end in a clearing with views of Loon Lake Mountains, Peaked Mountain and the Plumadore Range. On the way back, they got off their bikes and bushwhacked to a lookout on an unnamed peak with great views of the Sable Highlands and many peaks in the distance. DECโs plans call for creating a mountain-bike loop around the unnamed peak and a hiking trail to the lookout. Neither has been done. These photos by Lynch are from that trip.
