In the November issue of the Adirondack Explorer, David Thomas-Train looks at community trail systems around the Adirondacks, including the Newcomb Adirondack Interpretive Center and Elizabeth community trails which are among the places featured in this gallery.
In the past, we have done articles about a community trail systems in Old Forge for mountain bikers and one in Tupper Lake for skiers and snowshoers.
Mike Lynch has been a multimedia reporter for the Explorer since 2014 and can often be found hiking mountains, paddling rivers, or skiing down slopes. I very much regret that I omitted The New Lands Trust on Plumadore Road along the southern slopes of Lyon Mountain in Saranac. There are 31playfully named trails at this non- profit community trail network.
It is a wonderful network with a long history of community support; I wrote in detail about NLT in the November-December 2018 issue of The Explorer.
