I am a big supporter of the Explorer and the Adirondacks. But I sure am troubled by the Explorer’s campaign to lift up the rails between Thendara and Lake Placid.
Let’s get on with building the bike and walking path between Saranac Lake and Lake Placid beside the tracks (I just saw a new $1.2 million grant came through, adding to existing grants of $1.2 million and $780,000, making a total of nearly $3.2 million). Both are great assets, and they can live together in harmony. Yes, building a path farther to the west may be expensive, but the rails are not going to be and should not be removed—there is a rail renaissance going on in this country, and in the not-too-distant future you will be glad to have them.
