PARKING LOTS FILL UP FAST OVER HOLIDAY WEEKEND: Explorer publisher Tracy Ormsbee checked in at three parking areas for popular High Peaks trails early on Saturday morning of Columbus Day/Indigenous People’s Day weekend. Lots at the Garden and Adirondack Mountain Reserve and at the Adirondak Loj quickly met capacity. READ MORE (and watch the video)

PAYING TRIBUTE TO WHAT WAS LOST: Like many beautiful Adirondack Lakes, the Great Sacandaga Lake is man-made. Over a dozen hamlets lie buried under the reservoir, created in 1930 with the damming of the Sacandaga River.
