Portions of the Adirondacks were hit with a snowfall this morning, with snow accumulating on the ground at about 2,500 feet.

I drove over to Coreys and visited Stony Creek and the Raquette River this morning to check on the water levels. They were at flood levels, which is typical for this time of the year because of the melting snow mixed with heavy rains.

In the May issue of the Explorer, Alan Wechsler writes about competing in the the Wilmington Whiteface 100-kilometer (62-mile) bike race last June. The race goes from the base of Whiteface Mountain to Elizabethtown and back. The event is a qualifier for the Leadville 100, a famous mountain bike race that is set in the Colorado Rockies. Above are some photos of the 2018 Wilmington Whiteface race.

The town of Franklin used a NYSERDA grant to build a solar array in Kate Mountain Park off of state Route 3 in Vermontville. The solar panels will be used to power Franklin's town hall, highway garage,  and park facilities. These photos of the panels were taken in April.

Canoeist Marty Plante paddled a 13-mile section of the Cedar River near the village of Indian Lake last fall. He returned in early April to revisit a section to get some photos, but he found the river locked up with ice. So he went upstream and found some open water a few rapids to run.…

Trout fishing season opened on Monday. As is often the norm in the northern Adirondacks, wintery conducts persisted so there was very little open water for anglers.

Above are photos that were taken this past winter during a snowstorm in the northern Adirondacks. The snowmobilers are riding on the travel corridor in Lake Clear. The corridor stretches from Lake Placid to Utica.

Highway crews removed ice from the East Branch of the Ausable River this winter to clear a channel, hoping to prevent ice jams. The ice now lines the river along state Route 9N. Here's a video that shows how much ice was removed.
