Mining changes
Upstone Materials is seeking amendments to its permit allowing mineral extraction, according to a project description.
The proposed permit change includes increasing the extraction area from 55.3± acres to 57.3 ± acres. It also seeks to change “the Life-of-Mine boundary from 247 ± acres to 161.4 ± acres, changing the mined land use plan and reclamation plan from vegetative benching to a combination of modified benching on the upper terraces with a partially vegetated rubble.” It would also change “from a dry rock mine to mining below the water table.” That would create an approximately 30.1-acre pond, 70-feet deep and lower “the final floor elevation from 1,650 feet to 1565 feet in elevation.”
