The state Department of Environmental Conservation is investigating a series of orange spray paint marks that recently appeared on the Cascade Mountain trail.
The bright orange paint markings were made on trees, boulders, and on the rock above treeline.
In a Tweet send out today, the DEC encouraged people who were hiking that area last week between Monday and Friday to call them at 518-897-1300 if they have information related to the illegal blazes.
Cascade Mountain is located outside Lake Placid in the High Peaks Wilderness. It’s one of the most popular trails in the Adirondack Park. Hundreds of hikers routinely use the trail on busy days, including weekends in September and early October.
Maybe if the rangers didn’t push for expanded duties like fish and wildlife enforcement, boat launches and campgrounds they would have more time to protect the trails and find missing hikers……..
