While the COVID-19 vaccination rollout gives hope that there’s a light at the end of this pandemic tunnel, it also seems like the “pandemic fatigue” that was a buzzword over the summer has settled into full blown malaise.
This week, the news from Washington, D.C. shook many of us out of the shut-in induced doldrums. In the Adirondack Almanack, two of our contributors put their thoughts into commentary pieces. The first, by Peter Bauer, is critical of U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik, who represents the majority of Adirondack North Country residents in Congress. The second piece, posted Tuesday, is by Vanessa Banti. She wonders how we can begin to heal as a nation, in the midst of so much hate-filled rhetoric and symbols.
While Peter’s piece has garnered a lot of discussion (231 comments and counting), some readers voiced their displeasure at seeing political content in the Almanack. As many noted, they enjoy coming to the Almanack to get away from the headlines. Turns out they may have a point, as both Peter and Vanessa’s commentary pieces were edged out of the running for most-read story of the week (keep scrolling to see which one earned the title).
