Editorial guidelines

The Explorer relies heavily on articles written by free-lancers. In each issue, we run feature articles on environmental issues, outdoor recreation, wildlife and interesting people. A typical feature is 1,500 words. We also run opinion pieces, book reviews and personal essays, all of which tend to be shorter than feature articles. We pay 25 cents a word, normally upon publication. We're always eager to work with experienced journalists and writers.
